"I'm looking forward to getting out there and representing Sacramento and Greece. I'm super excited," the 18-year-old Stojakovic said as he was presented with a uniform.
Thessaloniki-born Andrej, who holds both Serbian and Greek passports, is a shooting guard/small forward from Jesuit High School in Carmichael, California.
Due to his father's background, Andrej Stojakovic is eligible to represent Serbia internationally, while due to his mother's background, he is suitable to represent Greece.
Stojakovic is widely regarded as a top international prospect in his class, while father, Peja, had a terrific 13-year NBA career that included three All-Star selections, an All-NBA nod, and an NBA championship with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011. Peja also helped to lead the FR Yugoslavian national team to gold medals in FIBA EuroBasket 2001 and FIBA World Cup 2002.
Andrej is currently ranked 16th in the U.S. by 247Sports. He has already committed to Stanford.
Words about Greece come as an important progress after what Serbian national teams' director, Dragan Tarlac, said last November.
"We are in contact, we have been talking about it since Andrej was born," Tarlac revealed at the time. "My friendship with Peja does not change anything in relation to the decision that the child must make first; wherever he feels the closest, the warmest, as it happened with Tristan [Vukcevic]. It took time for him to decide, so should Andrej [take his time]. He must feel that he belongs here."
Andrej Stojakovic has never played for the youth national teams.
He is only the third boys' basketball player in the Sacramento area to be named a McDonald's All-American.
