Tenerife will play in the Spanish Cup semifinals for the fifth time in the last six seasons. Despite being competitive in each campaign, they have never reached the grand final.
That's why Tenerife head coach Txus Vidorreta ironized out this situation in the post-game conference. He compared his team's performances at the Copa del Rey with famous cyclist Raymond Poulidor at Le Tour.
Raymond Poulidor was a French professional racing cyclist in the '60s and '70s. He was known as "The Eternal Second," because he never won the Tour de France despite finishing in second place three times, and in third spot five times.
"We have been competing well in the Cup for many years. But we are beginning to feel like Raymond Poulidor. We'll see if we can change that feeling this year," Vidorreta said.
The 56-year-old specialist concluded the press conference by pointing out the importance of resting well before the semis vs. Joventut or Baskonia.
"We play good basketball, but we also are the oldest team in the Copa del Rey, so I'm glad we did not have too much wear and tear tonight."
