After finalizing a contract buyout with the Utah Jazz, nine-time All-Star guard Russell Westbrook plans to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Westbrook had discussed deals with the Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards, and Miami Heat in recent days, but the chance to compete for a championship and remain in Los Angeles played a significant part in his decision to choose the Clippers, an NBA insider adds.

Westbrook was traded from the Lakers to the Jazz before the trade deadline in a three-team deal, in which Los Angeles landed D'Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley, and Jared Vanderbilt.

The 34-year-old guard took on a new role with the Lakers this year, starting most of the games off the bench. He has been averaging 15.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 7.5 assists this season.

Westbrook joins his fifth team in four years after spending the first 11 seasons of his NBA career in Oklahoma City. He has career averages of 22.5 points, 8.4 assists, and 7.3 rebounds over 1073 games (1007 starts).
