Pablo Laso asked the Israeli federation for some more time to decide on whether he'll take the head coaching job and talks between the two sides came to a halt.

Pablo Lasois not expected to coach the Israeli national team, the country's basketball federation announced.

Over the last days, there have been several conversations and meetings with the decorated Spanish coach, in order for him to take over the Israeli national team. This morning, Laso clarified that he's considering several offers from EuroLeague teams for next season and asked the federation to take some more time to think about it.

The Israeli federation reps told Laso that the process of selecting a coach for the national team will continue, but if the right candidate isn't found by the summer months, the parties may discuss the details again.

At the same time, Laso has surfaced as a potential suitor for Panathinaikos Athens' bench, after the Greens parted ways with Dejan Radonjic and are expected to hire Christos Serelis as an interim coach until the end of the season.

Panathinaikos, sunk near the bottom of the EuroLeague table with 8 wins and 16 losses, are already planning next season with the aim of recovering their former greatness. The Greek club and Pablo Laso have already established their first contacts, although talks are expected to last for a long time.

The coach from Alava has been without a team since the end of last season 2021-22, in which he parted ways with Real Madrid after suffering a myocardial infarction. In any case, Laso has far from strayed from the world of basketball -last week he was in Badalona watching e Copa del Rey- and on many occasions, he has been firm in his decision to return to coach a leading team in Europe.
