Some basketball fans started calling him 'coach killer' for his supposed involvement in the process.
The star guard was asked about it recently.
"Oh, people are gonna say what they got to say. I mean, a lot of players have played for a lot of coaches. So, I don't look at it like that," he told the media after Friday's practice.
"I'm not looking at the next coach that comes in here or whatever. I'm just trying to win championships. Whatever it is, I'm just trying to win," he explained. "That's all I care about."
Young wasn't available for the media on Wednesday and was excused from practice on Thursday due to a family emergency. The guard told he found about about the news reading on Twitter after taking a nap.
"It was surprising to me. I mean, the timing and stuff, right now. Obviously, I know what this league is and Nate knows. We've talked since then and had a conversation," Young shared.
"I've got nothing but love and respect for Nate and the type of person he is. It's not the last time me and him are going to talk," he concluded.
