According to Eric Pincus from Bleacher Report, the NBA will most likely implement a rule change next season that would allow head coaches to keep their challenges if they are successful.
Currently, each team has one challenge per game. To initiate the review, the head coach has to call a timeout. Unlike the MLB and the NFL, the team loses both the timeout and the challenge regardless of the result of the inquiry in the NBA.
The league's primary concern, Pincus notes, is to keep the games under 2 hours and 15 minutes. It is noted that the review process usually takes around 90 seconds but sometimes might extend to even six minutes or more.
There is no information on whether the coaches will be able to keep the challenge more than once during the game.
Coaches can challenge personal foul calls made against their team, out-of-bounds calls, and goaltending/basket interference calls. Notably, coaches cannot challenge non-calls.
The on-court crew chief of the refereeing trio makes the final decision on foul call reviews. The replay center referee makes the final decisions on all other reviews.
