First, the Italian specialist admitted that winning the German Cup was very important for the team.
I learned in the past that winning the cup is very important. It's not for what the cup gives you but what it can take away,"Trinchieri told Sasa Grujovic from Telegraf. "When I was in Partizan, professor [Vladimir] Koprivica was always telling me, and he was one of the people who inspired me the most in basketball, he would always tell me that you have to start the season with a trophy. Then you calm down a bit and the road is smoother."
"We could've played for four days, and we wouldn't have lost. The team was so focused, so locked in. I didn't need it to reinforce what I believe about this team but the players might have needed it because playing through so many adversities self-confidence can sometimes come and go," the coach explained.
After the cup win, Trinchieri celebrated the victory with his players and was bathed in beer in the locker room.
"At the laundry where I take my suit, they didn't want to take it. It was so stinking of beer the day after it was unbelievable," the coach revealed. "There are some steps that you cannot give up on. The team wanted me there, I had to go. I could've run to the parking or to the bus, I believe it's better to do it in the locker room because they would've come to the bus to do it. It was very cold. It was perfect to drink, not to shower."
The game against Bayern will be the first for Facundo Campazzo while wearing a Crvena Zvezda jersey in the EuroLeague. However, Trinchieri didn't want to emphasize the encounter.
"I don't care. Red Star is always Red Star. They have one of the most intriguing backcourts in the entire EuroLeague - Campazzo, Vildoza, and Nedovic. I don't know how many teams can put this together," he said. "We are not in discount mode. We're going to play as hard as we can."
After the interview, German journalists asked Trinchieri whether Vladimir Lucic will play against Crvena Zvezda, Telegraf write.
"He rested for 33 games, that should have been enough," the coach answered. "He is not fit, he plays with his mind, desire, and experience. He is not ready completely but we will use him for what we need, and that is always enough."
