EuroLeague TV rights money: 5 teams contribute 62%, some give nothing / News - Basketnews.com
The top five teams - Maccabi, Panathinaikos, Olympiacos, Barcelona, and Real Madrid - contribute around 62% of the total marketing pool that is distributed to the teams. Zalgiris Kaunas doesn't have a big enough TV deal so the team receives money from other shareholders to meet the minimum threshold.

Greek journalist Georgios Zakkas from SDNA published an extensive article, detailing how much money the teams in the completion receive from TV rights.
The total amount of money shared between the participants will amount to €42.5 million. Out of the total amount, €33.7 million is distributed for TV rights money. The remaining prize money is reserved for sporting achievements and can be found here.
Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv have the biggest TV contract in the league of €6 million. However, the team receives €4.1 million for it directly from the marketing pool. The Greek teams have the second-largest TV rights deal of €5.3 million. Both Panathinaikos Athens and Olympiacos Piraeus will receive €3.65 million each for their contribution to the marketing pool.
Spanish giants FC Barcelona and Real Madrid offer the third-biggest broadcasting contract to the EuroLeague of €5.2 million. Both clubs will receive €3.6 million each. Cazoo Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz have a different broadcasting contract - the deal amounts to around €2.6 million, and the club will receive approximately €1.8 million.
Adding up their TV rights deals, the top five teams - Maccabi, Panathinaikos, Olympiacos, Barcelona, and Real Madrid - contribute around 62% of the total marketing pool that is distributed to the teams.
All EuroLeague teams that hold the A license have to receive at least €1.5 million of prize money each season. Out of 12 shareholders that participate in this year's tournament, only one club doesn't have a TV rights contract that is big enough to cover the amount - Zalgiris Kaunas.
The Lithuanian team's TV deal with the EuroLeague amounts to €1.35 million, while the team receives only around 936 thousand out of it. It means that the remaining shareholders have to cover the difference between the minimum amount of €1.5 million and the amount the club gets.
If Zalgiris gets among the 14 teams that receive rewards for their performance, the amount other shareholders have to chime in gets smaller. For example, if the Lithuanian team comes in 7th place in the final standings, the remaining shareholders wouldn't have to pay a single euro.
Zalgiris were 15th in last year's EuroLeague, therefore, the other clubs had to pay a total of more than 500 thousand from their pockets to cover the difference.
Each EuroLeague shareholder, including Zalgiris, also has to give a certain amount of money from their TV rights contracts to the EuroCup. This year, the sum amounts to €600,000, which is split between the teams, further minimizing the money they receive from the TV deals.
There are 12 EuroLeague shareholders that participate in this year's edition of the tournament. The remaining 6 clubs receive a minimum of €500,000 from the marketing pool.
If any of the six teams - ALBA Berlin, Virtus Segafredo Bologna, Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade, Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade, Valencia Basket, and AS Monaco - finish the season among the top 14 teams in the tournament, they will receive additional money on top of the minimum amount they receive from the marketing pool.
Even though the six teams have their own TV rights deals, they do not contribute to the marketing pool and do not receive any additional money besides the guaranteed €500,000.
According to Sportski žurnal, Partizan had to pay €500,00 for their Wild Card this year. If they don't get to the top 14, the club would only break even. The Serbian outlet notes that the two Belgrade clubs miss out on more than a million euros of possible income from their TV rights deal with Sport Klub due to not being among the shareholders
