Down by one and with around 30 seconds to go in the match, the Raptors were on defense. With just under five seconds to go on the shot clock, a foul was called on Jakob Poeltl that sent Aaron Gordon to the free-throw line.
Immediately after the call, Scottie Barnes started questioning the referee's decision and gestured with his arms. Moments later, he received a technical foul and got ejected.
The Nuggets capitalized on the situation and went on to win the game 118-113.
After the game, referee Scott Foster, who administered the technical foul and the ejection on Barnes, was asked during the post-game pool report about the situation. The official answered that Barnes "was ejected on one technical foul because he used verbiage that which directly questioned the integrity of the crew".
Barnes finished the game with 12 points on 5-for-12 shooting, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 turnovers. In his second season in the NBA this year, the forward is averaging 15.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 4.8 assists for the Raptors.
