After Wednesday's win against Dolomiti Energia Trento in the EuroCup, Gran Canaria are now the best team in the tournament. The organization decided to reward the coach that brought it here.

The club officially announced that head coach Jaka Lakovic will remain with Gran Canaria until 2025.

With 12 wins and just 3 losses, the team has the best record in the EuroCup. In the Spanish Liga Endesa, the island club is currently 7th with 13 wins and 8 losses.

Before arriving in Gran Canaria, Lakovic coached ratiopharm Ulm in Germany, reaching the quarterfinal stage of EuroCup last year.

"He's not the easiest to play for at times but he's a really good coach. He knows his stuff, he's very demanding. He holds players to a very high standard on and off the court," current AS Monaco forward Jaron Blossomgame told in an interview with BasketNews about Jakovic.

"He's a guy that myself and a lot of players looked up to. When he would talk to us and give us life lessons and talk about basketball, we would really listen," Blossomgame said.
