At the very end of the fourth quarter, the Bucks had an insurmountable lead and the final possession to just dribble the ball out. Then, Kings big man Trey Lyles fouled Giannis Antetokounmpo and pushed him after the foul.
Bucks veteran Brook Lopez immediately took notice and approached Lyles to confront him about it. As a response, Lyles pushed Lopez in the face and a fight began.
Other players got involved in the scuffle with both teams' coaching staff having to separate the men. After everything calmed down, both Lyles and Lopez were ejected.
"If you watch, I was just walking back with my head down, he crossed in front of me, reached from behind, kind of clamped my arms up, pushed my arm off. He sold it a little bit," Lyles commented about the episode to Fox40 Sports. "It was nothing personal but when a bigger guy walks down on me, I'm not really one for talk. It takes a lot for me to go out of character. I'm not gonna go for that."
"I mean, Giannis can just dribble the ball out. That’s all he had to do, and nothing would have happened," Kings star guard De'Aaron Fox said in the post-game press conference.
"He's going to frustrate people," Lopez told Eric Nehm from The Athletic on Giannis and Lyles. "So, if anyone is going to respond with BS or cheap stuff like that, I'm not going to go out of my way to get violent or do anything wrong bu I'm just going to be there to protect my guy and let whoever it is know that I have his back and that's not going to fly."
"I don't know what happened but we ain't taking no shit from nobody, trust me on that," Kings head coach Mike Brown said after the match. "We're gonna have each other's back in there, and it doesn't mean we're going to go out there and start something, we're not but we're going to stand up for ourselves and each other."
The Bucks went on to win the game 133-124.
