Markota joined KK Dinamo Zagreb last year and helped the team get promoted from Croatia's Second Division to the First League. This year, he played in 17 games, averaging 6.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game for 8.1 PIR.
Everything changed on January 29th in the game against KK Split when the veteran forward injured his back.
Per Eva Grgic from Germanijak, the player appeared just a few times in the team facilities afterward and then basically disappeared. The club couldn't contact the player, he wasn't answering the media as well, the journalist reports.
On March 17th, the club announced that it has parted ways with the player. "After injuring his back in the first half of the match with KK Split, Markota no longer found the motivation for further rehabilitation and recovery," the club's official statement reads.
After the news, Markota confirmed to Index.hr that he had a back injury but did not address the report that he hadn't contacted the club for over a month.
