Towns drove to his right and drew a foul against John Collins. He converted both free throws with 3.6 seconds left to send the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 125-124 win against the Hawks on Wednesday night.
Towns finished the game with 22 points (4/8 2PT, 4/8 FT), 12 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block.
"Shoutout to Finch for having that confidence in me after 51 games and all of the things I had to deal with," Towns said. "I just knew in my bones I wasn't going to miss."
"It's obviously one of the beauties of KAT," head coach Chris Finch said. "You can give him the ball in a lot of places on the floor in high-leverage situations. He's going to get a clean look, put a lot of pressure to get the foul."
The Timberwolves lost 3 in the last 4 games, making it even more special for Towns.
"It's what movies is made of; it's what dreams is made of," Towns said. "I'm glad my movie had a good ending."
Mike Conley joined the Timberwolves at the trade deadline, and it was his first experience playing with Towns.
"Very pleased with him coming back and giving us what he gave us," Conley said of Towns. "He's just going to get better and better, I believe. For me, it's another guy we're adding in, and I got to get used to playing alongside."
