The new arena should have a 10 000 seats capacity.
"Pavilion 35 is the only one not to be used," Calzolari said in the press conference. "It has the hospitality to welcome Virtus and can be used for other purposes. Basketball is a great component of life in this city. There will be a €55 millioninvestment. We aim to complete it by Christmas in 2024 or New Year in 2025."
Meanwhile, Bologna's mayor Matteo Lepore said that Bologna is sending a message to the EuroLeague.
"This project is a part of a broad vision of Bologna as an entertainment place," Lepore said. "You'll see the changes in the coming years. It includes better management of spaces. Use [the new arena] up to 365 days per year. As in the big cities in the world, sports and entertainment go together. This Arena will be a symbol."
"It's a message to the EuroLeague. We want to be ready to stay there with proper infrastructure. This new arena will present it," added Bologna's mayor.
Virtus president Massimo Zanetti also commented, saying the new arena is his contribution to Bologna.
"This is my contribution to Bologn," Zanetti said. "I made a promise when I took over the club, and I think I've kept all of them with this act. That is to give something to Virtus. One day I won't be here anymore, maybe I'll pass the torch."
"Whoever takes over the club will find it settled in its home. To stay in EuroLeague, you need to have a proper facility. I'm deeply proud to be here today. Bologna has been my city since 1973," Zanetti added.
Inside the project for the new arena, there'll be also room for commercial areas and a new training court for the first team.
