I broke out too. The organization of the game was poor, there were no police officers," Krstic emphasized in the Jao Mile podcast.
"Of course, no one could do anything there. Few know that after the match finished, there was tension in the tunnel, outside the locker rooms, and also in the hotel," the former player said and then revealed some interesting details:
"My passport was confiscated, I was detained and had to go to the embassy to make some statements. I didn't want to make loud statements and ask whether they would do the same if it was the captain of Team USA. I was irritated, but basically, I deserved it all. Then I was sentenced to three years of probation and was not allowed to cause trouble in Greece again," Krstic disclosed.
After the investigation, FIBA suspended Krstic for three games at World Cup in Turkey and handed him a 45,000 Swiss francs ($43,950) fine.
At the time, local police said Krstic was charged with causing actual bodily harm, but this was a misdemeanor offense under Greek law, normally punishable with a fine.
Meanwhile, Serbia's Milos Teodosic and Greece's Antonis Fotsis and Sofoklis Schortsanitis received two-game suspensions. Both federations were fined.
More details about the fight:
The fight broke out during the last game of the Acropolis tournament, which was abandoned with 2:40 remaining and Greece leading by one point.
The incident occurred just a week before the basketball world championship in Turkey, where both teams played.
A crowd of about 5,000 watched Greek and Serbian players exchange punches and kicks on the floor and in the tunnels leading to the dressing rooms. Two or three spectators entered the fray but were quickly shoved out of the arena.
The fight began when Greece forward Antonis Fotsis moved threateningly against Serbia guard Milos Teodosic, who had fouled him. Krstic grabbed Fotsis by the throat and threw a chair toward Sofoklis Schortsanitis, who was pursuing him. The chair hit Ioannis Bourousis, who had not played because of a hand injury, and left him with a bloody wound on the side of his head.
