Domantas Sabonis agrees to four-year extension with Kings
Domantas Sabonis won't be leaving the Sacramento Kings anytimesoon.
The All-NBA center has agreed to a four-year contract extensionthat will keep him in Sacramento through the 2027-28 campaign,according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Sabonis and the Kings "agreed to a massive contractrenegotiation and extension for a total of $217 million over fiveseasons -- including $195 million in new money," Woj writes.
Wojnarowski notes that Sabonis could have asked for more money,but he wanted to ensure that the Kings have some flexibility foradditional roster moves as the team looks to assemble acontender.
The Kings wanted to lock up Sabonis, who just helped them endtheir NBA-record playoff drought, leading Sacramento to thepostseason for the first time since 2006.
As a result of the renegotiation, Sabonis will earn an extra$8.6 million in the upcoming season.
Sabonis becomes the second NBA player in the last six monthswhose deal was renegotiated with cap space and extended, joiningIndiana Pacers big man Myles Turner (who signed a two-year, $60million extension).
The three-time All-Star averaged 19.1 points and 12.3 reboundslast season, which led to his first All-NBA selection.
