Officially, 2340 people attended the event, which is the lowest number since at least 2006, Greek journalist Yannis Psarakis notes. At the same time, it was the lowest attendance in the 2022-23 EuroLeague season.
The previous low was set during the 2012-13 season, Psarakis notes, when 2500 people came to see Panathinaikos compete against Khimki Moscow Region.
Interestingly, three of the top-5 lowest numbers were recorded this season with matches against Zalgiris Kaunas (3170) and Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul (4180) also making the list.
Through 16 home games this season, Panathinaikos averaged 6313 fans per game. Knowing that the venue can host up to 19,443 spectators, it's less than one-third of the total capacity OAKA could hold.
Panathinaikos season has been mired in controversy and stories surrounding both the players and the coaching staff. First, Andrew Andrews beefed with the team and refused to be excluded from the roster in the Greek League. Head coach Dejan Radonjic had reportedly lost control of the team, which ultimately led to his firing.
With 11 wins and 20 losses, Panathinaikos are currently tied with Bayern for 15th place in the EuroLeague.
