"I always dreamed of this moment," Butler said post-game. "I'm just happy it was able to come to fruition.
"The plan was just to get downhill. They cut me off a little bit," Butler explained after his game-winner. "I looked up and there were two seconds left, I knew I had to make a shot. I got to a shot I'm comfortable with. Went to a pull-up; glad it went in."
"It felt good as soon as it left my hand," he also added.
Butler's last-second heroics sent the sports world into a frenzy. NBA legend and current ESPN analyst -- Charles Barkley -- was among those who couldn't believe what he saw happen in the closing seconds at NRG Stadium in Houston.
"I think that's going to be one of the shots that we're going to see forever," SDSU guard Darrion Trammell said. "They're going to play for previews for March Madness next year and the year after that. I think that was just legendary."
San Diego State University is scheduled to meet the University of Connecticut (UConn) in the championship game on Sunday night.
The Huskies defeated Miami in the second semifinal, 72-59.
