Wembanyama makes stunning dunk, but Metropolitans stand hopeless vs Monaco / News - Basketnews.com
Victor Wembanyama made an amazing putback dunk in Metropolitans' loss to LNB leaders AS Monaco.
Credit:Victor Wembanyama is currently projected as the first overall pick in the coming NBA Draft. That's mostly because he is such a singular, unique talent that can't get passed up.
On Sunday, Wembanyama showed off his freakish abilities once again in Boulogne-Levallois's (18-9) game against EuroLeague side AS Monaco (21-5) for Round 27 of the French league, by pulling off a feat rarely- if ever- seen before. The French player pulled a stepback three and then, realizing it was off the mark, ran in for a putback dunk off his own shot.
Wembanyama simply glided in, took four steps, and dunked the ball to everyone's amazement.
However, the evening in the Principality wasn't a pleasant one for Wemby and his team. The LNB leaders proved a tough nut to crack for second-placed Boulogne-Levallois, in a meeting that was highlighted by Wembanyama's play.
The hosts prevailed easily by 87-68, keeping the primacy in the standings, while their opponents stayed in second place. Wembanyama had only 8 points on 3/9 from the field and 0/3 from distance, 2/2 free throws, 14 rebounds, and 3 blocks for a PIR of 19.
Tremont Waters produced 31 points, 5 rebounds and as many assists for the losing side that scored only 31 points in the second half.
In spite of Mike James' poor contribution scoring-wise (5 points on 1/11 FGs, 5 rebounds, 7 assists), Elie Okobo and Matthew Strazel provided the necessary firepower for the hosts. Okobo scored 21 points, while Strazel added 16.
Despite the loss, Wembanyama keeps leading the LNB stats with 21.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.2 blocks, and 25.5 in PIR per game.
