One of the most important news has to do with the very significant increase in the Federation's revenues, which almost tripled in the first year of the new administration when Vangelis Liolios came in to replace Giorgos Vassilakopoulos.
As the federation informed, from €3.8 million in 2021, the total revenue reached €9 million in 2022 and is expected to reach €9.175 million in 2023.
This is due to the fact that during the Vangelis Liolios' era, the federation secured more sponsorship agreements and sealed endorsement deals with the advertising sector, resulting in almost three times more revenue than in the recent past from these two key sectors.
Another decisive factor has been the presence of Giannis Antetokounmpo. The 'Greek Freak,' who was absent from the 2021 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, came back in 2022 for the Acropolis Tournament (three home games), the 2023 World Cup Qualifiers (games vs. Serbia and Belgium), as well as the EuroBasket.
Ahead of the 2023 World Cup, Greece will be hosting Slovenia, Serbia and Italy at OAKA.
