Dallas plans to surround its main superstar Luka Doncic with defenders and rim protectors to improve the team's lackluster defense, Haynes writes.
Since Irving's arrival before the trade deadline, the Mavericks won just 9 games out of the 25 they played, they're 1-7 since the win against the Los Angeles Lakers on March 17.
With 37 wins and 42 losses, the Mavericks are currently 11th in the Western Conference standings, one game behind the Oklahoma City Thunder. With three games left to play for both teams, Dallas will need to win two more games than OKC since the Thunder hold the tie-breaker against the Mavs.
As a result, the organization is reportedly considering shutting both Irving and Doncic down for the remainder of the regular season.
