"The annual honor recognizes the player who best represents the ideals of sportsmanship on the court," the league notes.
First established in 1996, the award is now named after its first winner Joe Dumars. If Mike Conley wins the award, he will become the first player in the league's history to achieve four times. Previously, Grant Hill has also won it three times.
