After the Philadelphia 76ers win against the Boston Celtics and the monstrous 50-point performance by Joel Embiid, head coach Doc Rivers was certain about one thing.
Player of the Game EFF 61 Joel Embiid Points 52 Accuracy 20-25 Rebounds 13 Assists 6
"The MVP race is over," Rivers said. "The man just scored half of our points in an NBA game."
Embiid finished the game with 52 points (20/24 2PT, 0/1 3PT, 12/13 FT), 13 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks, and 3 turnovers.
Embiid became only the 2nd player in NBA history to record 50 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 80% shooting in a game, joining Wilt Chamberlain.
"They're probably right," Embiid said with a laugh when told about Rivers' words. "But we have bigger goals in mind."
Embiid averages 33.3 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game over 64 appearances.
He's the favorite to win the NBA's scoring title and among the leading candidates to become the 2022-23 season's NBA MVP.
