With 2:12 remaining in the fourth quarter, Joel Embiid was fighting with Williams for a better spot to receive the ball. In the process, the Celtics player backed off after seemingly getting hit with the 76ers star's shoulder. Moments later, the same situation repeated again.
Embiid ended up passing the ball to PJ Tucker who hit a three-pointer from the corner. After the play, Williams received a technical foul while getting back to offense,
"So that moment where I got hit in the face twice, I said, 'Call the f—–g foul'. And next thing you know I got a technical. So I got a technical for that," Williams told Jay King from The Athletic. "And the following possession P.J. says, 'Call the f—–g push-off'. No technical foul."
"Later in the game, after Joel throws me across the face on the out-of-bounds play, no review of a flagrant, no review of nothing. Then he proceeds to say, 'How the f— do you call a foul on me in that position? That's not a f—–g foul', and no technical foul. So it was like, OK, did I do something different from the other guys that led to me getting a technical foul? Or is it one of those things where I just need to shut up and dribble?" the player asked.
The Celtics ended up losing the game by 2 points (101:103). With 54 wins and 24 losses, they're currently second in the Eastern Conference.
