Cousins, a six-time NBA All-Star, had 19.6 points and 10.2 rebounds in 654 games.
He is also a two-time All-NBA team member (2015 and 2016).
The former player from the University of Kentucky was selected in the fifth round of the 2010 draft by the Sacramento Kings, where he reached the peak of his career.
In the 2016-17 season, he was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. He then signed as a free agent in 2018-19 with the Golden State Warriors and suffered an ACL injury. He was not the same player again.
Cousins has not played in the NBA this season. He split last season between the Milwaukee Bucks and Denver Nuggets.
The Mets roster features former NBAers Mitchell Creek, Ed Davis and Jaysean Paige. Former 2006 first-round pick Renaldo Balkman also played for Guaynabo this season.
Cousins will turn 33 years old before next season. He reportedly hopes a successful stint with Guaynabo will lead to NBA offers for a training camp spot next season. The Puerto Rican BSN regular season runs until mid-June, with the postseason running into the summertime.
