BCL begins an investigation into AEK fans' actions vs Hapoel / News - Basketnews.com

The league announced that teams that are unable to provide a safe environment for matches will be punished.

AEK Athens' fans violently attacked Hapoel Jerusalem supporters during a Basketball Champions League (BCL) game on Wednesday. The league has begun an official investigation.

The next day after the match, the league released an official statement:

Following the incidents that took place during the QF game between AEK Athens and Hapoel Jerusalem, the BCL Single Judge has opened Disciplinary Proceedings whose outcome will be communicated to all relevant parties once the process has been concluded.

The BCL condemns all instances of violence inside our sport arenas and reaffirms that the safety of fans attending BCL games remains our priority. The BCL will continue to work with all clubs in order to safeguard the best possible conditions and clubs that are unable to provide such a safe environment will be sanctioned accordingly.

The Greek fans started throwing various things at the Israeli supporters. One of the fans was injured in the process, Tomer Givati from Israel Hayom writes.

AEK fans threw firecrackers at the opposing fans, and started burning an Israeli flag, while several Palestinian flags were seen in the arena as well.

Israeli fans later responded with flares.BN Sports reportincidents outside the arena as several loud bangs could be heard before the start of the second half. There were several attempts to break into the Hapoel stand,the Israeli journalist notes.

The Israeli clublater released a statementclarifying the discussions that were had between the organizations and the refereeing crew.
