As the Italian Basketball Federation officially announced, the organization has been given a 16-point penalty for this season's competition.
The punishment was handed for failing to indicate that not all financial obligations with former players had been met at the time of admission to the LBA.
Additionally, the club's president Marco Vittorelli has been prohibited from working in the organization until April 13th, 2026.
Varese are currently 5th in the league's standings with 28 points in their account (14 wins and 11 losses). With the 16-point deduction, the club would only have 12 points and would be placed dead last in the standings, 4 points behind the last-placed Tezenis Verona.
With just 5 games remaining in the competition, Varese are on the verge of being relegated out of the league. The team that finishes the season last gets demoted to the Serie A2 competition.
