The 57-year-old will become a free agent in the summer, previously confirming that he holds talks with Panathinaikos. In a recent interview with the Greek newspaper Live Sports, Ataman added that these talks continue, and they look positive.

"It is true that we are talking, and all I can tell you is that I have a good feeling," Ataman told Sotiris Vetakis from Live Sport. "We have had frank discussions, and from what I gather from them, I dare to say the feeling is positive."

"I will add that if I leave Efes, Panathinaikos is my first choice. Soon, I will give my answer to the proposal I received," added Ataman.

Ataman also said he expects financial support from Panathinaikos ownership and management to bring back Panathinaikos' glory days. The Turkish tactician also added he would like to become the new Zeljko Obradovic.

"The president told me he wants to return Panathinaikos where it belongs, and that suits me," Ataman said. "I want us to win titles and achieve a lot. If I come to Panathinaikos, I want to become the new Zeljko of Panathinaikos."

In his 13-year stint with Panathinaikos, Obradovic guided the Greens to five EuroLeague and 11 Greek League titles.

Meanwhile, Ataman enjoys a terrific stint with Anadolu Efes, winning two EuroLeague and two Turkish League championships.
