Wojnarowski adds that Nurse will immediately become a prominent candidate in the Houston Rockets' coaching search.
Nurse, 55, was named the ninth head coach in Raptors history on June 14, 2018, and has guided the organization to a 227-163 regular-season record over the course of the last five seasons and led Toronto to the franchise's first NBA Championship in 2019.
He was named the 2019-20 NBA Coach of the Year after leading the Raptors to a 53-19 regular season franchise-best 73.6% winning percentage.
Nurse had one year and $8M-plus left on his deal.
He is the head coach of the Canadian national team.
