Luckily, Gelabale is now feeling better and has returned to the home environment, according to the press release.

"During Monday morning's training session, I experienced such symptoms that I was rushed to the emergency room at Chalon Hospital. The MRI then detected a stroke. Fortunately, it was caught in time, I was treated immediately and underwent additional examinations in the intensive care unit and then in neurology," Gelabale said.

"Today I am pleased to announce that I am back home," the 39-year-old reassured the fans. "However, I will have to rest for several weeks before resuming a professional activity and, unfortunately, I will not be able to return for the end of the season. I have good hope that my condition will improve over time and I will be allowed to return to the court."

Gelabale has had a long-lasting career (since 2001), during which he became the EuroCup champion, ACB League champion, and two times won the French League. He is also a multiple-medal winner with the French national team:

EuroBasket gold medalist: 2013 EuroBasket silver medalist: 2011 EuroBasket bronze medalist: 2005 and 2015 World Cup bronze medalist: 2014

Gelabale went 48th overall in the 2005 NBA Draft and had NBA stints in two teams -- the Seattle SuperSonics (2006-08) and Minnesota Timberwolves (2013).

He has NBA career averages of 4.6 points and 2.3 rebounds over 145 games.
