As the scoreboard reached zeroes, marking the Celtics' win, Hawks' guard Dejounte Murray approached one of the game's referees - Gediminas Petraitis - and slightly bumped him, passionately arguing his case.
Although the interaction took only a couple of seconds, Murray was later seen gesturing to his teammates and had to be held back not to cause any inconvenience.
The Hawks didn't make Murray available for interviews after the match.
Several hours after the game, the NBA announced that it has begun an investigation into Murray's actions.
The league has established to be taking physical contact with the officials very seriously. In October, Celtics' forward Grant Williams was suspended for one game after making a contact with an official following his ejection.
Last season, Dejounte Murray was fined $20,000 for hitting a referee with a ball.
