Ataman has a two-year deal in place with Panathinaikos Athens.
The 55-year-old Laso left his Real Madrid head coaching role to assistant Chus Mateo due to health problems as a result of a heart attack last year. Madrid decided to continue with Mateo after Laso recovered.
FC Bayern Munich reportedly are also interested in Laso and now appear as the favorites to sign him.
