Credit: AFP – Scanpix Credit AFP – ScanpixAfter a fiasco at the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers and an unsuccessful performance in EuroBasket 2022, the Croatian Basketball Federation (HKS) hired Aleksandar Petrovic to lead the basketball team forward. However, the partnership did not live up to its expectation.
"Given that I no longer have confidence in the leading people of HKS, I have decided to resign from the position of sports director," Petrovic wrote on Twitter.
After a win against Austria in the 2025 EuroBasket Pre-Qualifiers, he decided to no longer coach the team. Still being the sports director of HKS, Petrovic appointed Josip Sesar as the new leader of the national team in the middle of April.
As a player, Petrovic won the EuroLeague in 1985 and 1986. Additionally, he guided Croatia to its last medal in international competitions in 1995, where the national team placed third in EuroBasket 1995.
