Losing the game by 15 points and under 2 minutes to go in the game, Real players started to show visible frustration on the court, making several hard fouls in the process. Then, absolute chaos ensued.
In a fight that followed,Guerschon Yabuselebodyslammed Dante Exum,Mathias LessortshovedDzanan Musato the ground. Almost every single player from both teams was involved in the fight. In the end, 21 players received disqualifying fouls.
The day after the match, Lessort released a statement, apologizing for his actions during the brawl.
"What happened last night was very unfortunate and it doesn't show the real personality of me or any of my teammates. We all reacted in the heat of the moment and are all aware of the mistakes that we made in such a situation. I've talked to some players from Real, notably Guerschon who is also aware of what he did and asked me to apologize to Dante, and he's really sorry that he got injured during the altercation," the center posted on Twitter.
"I'm also asking our fans in Belgrade who have been great all season and who have shown throughout the seasons an irreproachable and exemplary attitude to keep it the same way and not to make the situation escalate to just once again show their love for this club," Lessort concluded.
The players who were involved in the fight might face fines ranging from 30,001 euros to 280,000 euros, be prohibited from participating in EuroLeague games for one to four years, be disqualified from the competition temporarily for one to four years or for three or more games, or even be permanently disqualified from EuroLeague competitions.
