This particular message caused an outburst from the player's agent Mike George.
"Shams Charania [is] the leader of spreading false news and attacking players. Why any player in the league talks to this guy blows my mind," George tweeted.
Grizzlies beat writer Damichael Cole from Commercial Appeal notes that the primary information might have come neither from the player's camp nor the Memphis organization.
Brooks has been in the public discourse recently for his comments about LeBron James, calling the superstar old and refusing to respect him unless he scores 40 on him.
The Grizzlies guard was ejected in Game 3 for hitting James in the groin.
Brooks averaged 14.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists on 39.6% shooting during the regular season. His numbers decreased in the playoff series against the Los Angeles Lakers - 10.5 points, 3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists on 31.2% shooting.
After signing a 3-year $35 million deal in 2020, Brooks will become an unrestricted free agent after the season.
