Additionally, Ergin Ataman was brought in to be the next head coach.
Looking ahead to the following season, Panathinaikos' owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos was certain that the team will regain its glory. He released a statement via his Instagram story:
Because Panathinaikos' place is not in the last positions in Europe nor is it [to be] second in Greece.
Because we will now have our own stadium with all that it entails in the possibility of investment to upgrade the overall family experience for our fans on the grounds of the stadium.
Because the EuroLeague has shown some signs of change in the right direction after changing years of failed management and bringing in management that aims to really grow the product.
Because investors and co-investors for the team can only be found by keeping the team high [in the standings] and [making] the product attractive.
Because while the cat is missing, the mice dance...
But mainly because blood is not water...
The team will be strengthened to such an extent that, with God's help, it will enable all of us to celebrate doubles as in the recent past and trebles as in the more distant past.
Panathinaikos recently parted ways with Dwayne Bacon after he admitted punching Eleftherios Mantzoukas during a practice.
Two wins were taken away from the team and a fine was issued after EuroLeague sanctioned Panathinaikos for violating Financial Fairplay rules.
