Williams and his teammate Jaylen Brown collided and fell to the ground, while Embiid, who was in midair, also fell and landed on top of them. Due to his heavy weight (280 lb, 127 kg), Embiid unintentionally drove Williams' head into the floor.
The accident occurred with 5:08 left in the fourth quarter.
"I was like 'Dang, I really got curb-stomped.' It happens, man," Williams told reporters after Game 3. "He was falling backwards and I'm just thankful he didn't fully lean his weight on it because he definitely got me pretty badly, but then I think he felt that he landed on something so he picked his foot up. Hurts a little bit."
Embiid apologized to Williams after the accident.
Despite suffering pain, Williams continued playing and contributed for 23 minutes, helping the Celtics secure a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Game 4 will be in Philadelphia on Sunday.
