According to Jose Ignacio Huguet from Mundo Deportivo, the Real Madrid organization met with current Virtus Segafredo Bologna head coach Sergio Scariolo regarding the possible takeover. The meeting, Huguet writes, took place on Tuesday, a day before Game 5.

The two sides began establishing contact long before the ultimate game of the playoffs. Georgios Zakkas from SDNA reported in early April that Scariolo was seen as the primary candidate to replace Mateo.

The Spanish Basketball Federation president Jorge Garbajosa has given the green light for the signing, Zakkas wrote back then.

Scariolo still has one year left in his contract with Virtus.

After beating Partizan, Real have advanced to the EuroLeague Final Four in Kaunas where they'll match up against FC Barcelona in the semifinal.
