"We are filled with gratitude for everything Monty has contributed to the Suns and to the Valley community," President of Basketball Operations and General Manager James Jones said.
The decision was made after Thursday's loss against the Nuggets in Game 6, Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN notes. The franchise's owner Mat Ishbia was reportedly unhappy with the result and was the main decision-maker.
Throughout his four years with the organization, Williams was elected Coach of the Year in 2022 and brought the team to NBA Finals in 2021. He had three years and more than $20 million left in his contract.
