Throughout NBA history, only Steve Nash, Derrick Rose, and Nikola Jokic haven't played in the NBA Finals, but all three have competed in the Conference Finals.
In one aspect, the 76ers star's performance against the Celtics was the worst in NBA history.
Embiid averaged 33.1 points per game during the regular season en route to his MVP award. In the playoffs, his point average dropped to 23.7 in the postseason. According to ESPN Stats & Info, it is the biggest dropoff (-9.4) by an MVP in the league's history.
Notably, Embiid missed two games in the playoffs - one against the Brooklyn Nets, and the other against the Celtics. The 76ers won both games.
"The kid deserves a break, he really does. He deserves one shot to just be 100% throughout [the playoffs]. I don't know if we would've won the series [if he was 100% healthy] but I would just love to have him one time when we don't have issues," head coach Doc Rivers said after Game 7. "I haven't had that opportunity and Joel hasn't had that opportunity, and that sucks for everybody."
