However, Gran Canaria is seriously considering the possibility of declining such an opportunity.
The concern is motivated by financial, logistical, and competitive challenges posed by the 34-game regular season, top-level opponents, and demanding travel schedules required to balance between the EuroLeague and the Spanish basketball league (ACB).
In their last EuroLeague appearance in 2018-19, Gran Canaria achieved eight victories out of 30 games and finished 14th place among 16 teams.
Meanwhile, in the ACB league, Gran Canaria failed to make the playoffs and ended up in 12th place.
Gran Canaria has not taken any official action yet. The final list of participants for the 2023-24 EuroLeague season will be confirmed during the General Assembly in July.
According to BasketNews sources, Valencia Basket is considered the favorite to play in the EuroLeague for the 2023-24 season if Gran Canaria officially decides to pass on the spot.
The first report about Gran Canaria's intention to skip participating in the EuroLeague came from Sotiris Vetakis of Live Sport.
