Asked about James Harden's situation and whether he's going to stay in Philadelphia, Embiid wanted to stay out of the conversation.
"I still believe we have a chance to win, we have what it takes to win. I don't know what's going on, and I know he has a player option that can extend him, but that's on those guys to figure it out. I'm going to stay out of it," Embiid said. "I still believe that we have the chance to win."
Later on, Embiid took what looked like a subtle jab at his teammates.
"It's going to take more than us. We have to look at ourselves. I have to be better, and I will be better, that's what I'm focused on. All of us, we have to come back and find ways to just keep improving and helping the team. You can't win alone. We can't win alone. Me and James, we just can't win alone," the MVP told the media. "That's why basketball is played five-on-five. We need everybody to just keep finding ways to get better, and we'll be fine."
Embiid is the only NBA MVP to not advance past the Conference Semifinal round in his career. Embiid averaged 33.1 points per game during the regular season en route to his MVP award. In the playoffs, his point average dropped to 23.7 in the postseason.According to ESPN Stats & Info, it is the biggest dropoff (-9.4) by an MVP in the league's history.
