Jorge Garbajosa elected as FIBA Europe President / News - Basketnews.com

As a result of his election as FIBA Europe President, Garbajosa will have to step down from his current role in the Spanish Basketball Federation. Furthermore, he will be required to initiate elections for the top post within the Spanish Federation within a maximum period of three months.

Spanish Basketball Federation president Jorge Garbajosa has been elected as the new FIBA Europe President and will replace Turgay Demirel, per the official announcement.

"Voting for Board members still going on, more details to follow," the further announcement reads.

Garbajosa will serve as the FIBA Europe President for the next 4 years.

The Spanish basketball legend won the election against French Basketball Federation president Jean-Pierre Siutat.

Garbajosa will have to step down from his current role in Spanish basketball. He will also have to call elections for the top Spanish Federation post within a maximum period of three months.
