Sergio Llull's game-winning jumper was at the epicenter of everyone's attention, including that of former and current EuroLeague stars who were either following the game live or just going online to learn about the outcome. After all, EuroLeague outings are now being streamed to the United States through the ESPN platform.
As expected, former Real Madrid legends Luka Doncic and Andres Nocioni were some of the first to react to their ex- team's big win.
Luka, having completed his season with the Dallas Mavericks and despite not being able to attend the game in Kaunas, made several posts on his Twitter account, expressing his feelings about Los Blancos.
As soon as the game ended and Madrid won, Doncic posted a caption with Llull's game-winner, accompanied by his trademark tangerines (a term that describes his miraculous circus shots) and the magician's stick.
His tone was celebratory, and that became obvious through some more posts.
Patrick Beverley didn't make a comment on his only EuroLeague team, Olympiacos, but opted to weigh in on Sergio Llull's calmness at crunch time.
Andres Nocioni, the EuroLeague Final Four MVP in 2015, posted a photo of Sergio Rodriguez and Sergio Llull, praising his former teammates. "How happy that makes me feel! The two old men always present," the retired Argentinian forward wrote.
In a class act, Pablo Laso congratulated his ex-team with which he won two continental titles in 2015 and 2018.
In a similar vein, Anadolu Efes' assistant coach Yakup Sekizkok also congratulated the newly-crowned champs. The Turkish coach won back-to-back titles with Efes, the second one against Madrid in 2022.
Olympiacos Piraeus / Schedule
Olympiacos Piraeus AS Monaco76-62 Olympiacos Piraeus Real Madrid78-79Just like Luka Doncic, Othello Hunter posted several tweets during the game. Having played for both finalists, Bayern Munich's big man wanted the Reds to win, but he also gave props to the team he played for one season (2016-17).
Jaron Blossomgame called Llull's shot "incredible" and recalled the brawl in Game 2 against Partizan that he thinks saved Real Madrid's season.
Tyrese Rice had come out victorious from a title-game clash with Real Madrid in Milan in 2014. As one of Maccabi Tel Aviv's leading men, Rice won both the trophy and Final Four MVP honors that same year. Maybe that's why he wasn't impressed at all by Llull's shot-making ability which the Spanish guard put out on display on Sunday night.
On the other hand, Eddie Johnson was left with a bitter aftertaste following Olympiacos' 73-61 loss to Madrid in the 1995 final in Zaragoza.
One of the best players to have ever worn the red-and-white jersey, Johnson had a prolific NBA career before moving to Greece and Europe for a single season. Despite his busy schedule as a Phoenix Suns analyst, the retired forward took the time to dedicate some words of comfort to his former team.
