Clippers sign Joshua Primo on two-way deal after NBA suspends him 4 games
Former San Antonio Spursguard Joshua Primo has been suspended four games without pay for"conduct detrimental to the league," the NBA announced today.
Primo was waived by theSpurs on Oct. 31, 2022, following an NBA investigation into hisinappropiate behavior.
"The league conducted itsown investigation and consulted with relevant experts. Followingthat process, the league found that Primo engaged in inappropriateand offensive behavior by exposing himself to women," the NBA'sstatement reads.
"Primomaintains that his conduct was not intentional, and the league didnot find evidence that he engaged in any sexual or other misconductapart from these brief exposures. Nevertheless, this behavior doesnot conform to league standards and warrants discipline."
Shortly after the NBAannounced Primo's suspension, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Los AngelesClippers are signing Primo to a two-way contract.
This comes after "a formerSpurs sports psychologist had sued the team and Primo over theplayer's actions, and the complaint was settled out of court,"Wojnarowski notes.
“It is our hope that, in the long run, this decision will servethe best interest of both the organization and Joshua,” Spurs CEORC Buford said in a statement at the time of his release.
"I know that you all are surprised by today's announcement. I'vebeen seeking help to deal with previous trauma I suffered and willnow take this time to focus on my mental-health treatment morefully," Primo said in a statement to ESPN at the time."I hope to be able to discuss these issues in the future so I canhelp others who have suffered in a similar way. I appreciateprivacy at this time."
During the 2022-23 season, Primo averaged 7.0 points, 4.5assists, 3.3 rebounds and 0.5 blocks in 23.3 minutes per game. As arookie, he appeared in 50 games (including 16 starts), averaging5.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 19.3 minutes pergame.
Primo was the No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and theyoungest player in his class.
