During the 2022-23 season, Girona achieved 11 wins in 34 games, securing 15th place and maintaining their spot in the championship.
"I feel like I need to step back and reflect on my current state and aspirations. With this peace of mind, I want to decide my future as a player," Gasol addressed his fate in the post-game interview, via Gigantes.
"At times, I have sensed that I retired from the game two years ago. The experiences I've had with Girona during these past two seasons have been truly exceptional, and I believe that no other club could have provided such opportunities. Although I haven't set a specific timeline for my decision, I intend to approach it with a sense of calmness and clarity."
At the age of 38, Gasol averaged 10.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.3 blocks, and 16.2 PIR in 24 minutes over the 2022-23 ACB regular season. He was fourth in blocks an sixth in efficiency in the entire league.
Gasol's basketball journey includes an extensive NBA career spanning from 2008 to 2021, highlighted by his triumph with the Toronto Raptors, where he secured an NBA championship ring in 2019.
Having returned to his native Spain after his NBA tenure, Gasol embarked on a new chapter with Girona, further contributing to the team he had established.
