After six years at Le Mans, Terry Tarpey is leaving the LBN team. His notable EuroBasket turnup made him climb spectacularly in the European hierarchy, and his club did not object to his departure even though the player's contract didn't include a release clause until 2024.

"It was a difficult choice," he told Maine Libre. "On the one hand, I want to keep stepping up in my career and play in more competitive leagues. And at the same time, there's my attachment to the club. It is thanks to the MSB that I reached the level I have today," the 29-year-old forward admitted.

"I want to continue to look up and we have always discussed it calmly with President Le Bouille and Vincent Loriot (sporting director). Things were clear between us, they told me they weren't going to stop me if I had offers. Le Mans is a big chapter in my life. I had never stayed so long in one place. If I hadn't injured my knee in 2018, maybe I would have had opportunities earlier," he reflected.

The French-American player said he's proud of the mark he left at the club.

"When I play it's to please my friends, the supporters, the volunteers who are always there and who give everything for us. My style of play is a way to thank them," he pointed out.

Before joining AS Monaco, Terry Tarpey intends to keep his place with the French NT for the upcoming World Cup in Asia.

"Yes, that's the goal," he confirmed. "Besides, maybe I'll go see Game 3 between the Mets and Cholet. I will take this opportunity to send a little message to coach (Vincent) Collet," he joked.
