EuroLeague was also preparing to host the biggest EuroLeague ambassador in the NBA.
However, Doncic finally couldn't make the trip to Kaunas. According to Eurohoops' Aris Barkas, the reason is the Slovenian star wasn't even able to reach Lithuania. The private jet of the Dallas Mavericks star did not have enough landing space at the Kaunas airport due to the large number of charter flights arriving from Greece.
Olympiacos' fans were the overwhelming majority in another Final Four, after their intense presence in Belgrade last year. A number of 5,000 Greek supporters watched the Reds take down AS Monaco in the semi-finals, while at least 2,000 more witnessed their team lose the trophy to Real Madrid in dramatic fashion in Sunday's final game.
Another NBA star, Kristaps Porzingis, watched the Euroleague Final in Kaunas live. Porzingis had already returned to his native country – Latvia, which is in relatively close proximity (300 kilometers) to Lithuania.
However, after Real Madrid won the EuroLeague, Doncic had a FaceTime call with his former teammates, who were celebrating in the locker room at that time.
Doncic, who became season and Final Four MVP in 2018 was teammates with Rudy Fernandez, Sergio Llull, Edy Tavares, Anthony Randolph and Fabien Causeur. All five are still part of the team that lifted the club's 11th continental crown.
