The NBA is currently investigating whether Lewis used a Twitter account to defend himself and fellow officials against online criticism.
Lewis had been a part of the NBA Finals officiating crew for the past four seasons.
Following the exposure of some now-deleted tweets by two Twitter users, the NBA initiated an investigation to determine if Lewis violated league rules by discussing officiating in an unauthorized manner. It remains uncertain whether Lewis was indeed using the Twitter account in question, which goes by the name "blair cuttliff."
While the account was briefly deactivated last week, it became active again on Wednesday evening.
"Regarding Eric Lewis and the social media posts, we are continuing to review the matter, and he will not be working the finals," NBA spokesman Mike Bass said Thursday.
