Head coach Andrea Trinchieri officially confirmed his departure from FC Bayern Munich following the team's elimination from the German Basketball League (BBL) playoffs against Ratiopharm Ulm on Friday night.

"We did everything possible today to extend the series," Trinchieri said after the third straight defeat vs. Ulm. "My players left everything on the court -- physically, mentally, and emotionally.

"That was my last game as Bayern coach. I came to Bayern during the pandemic, and the players and coaches found a way to go through a lot of resistance, to fight to the very end. I think this group deserved more. But in the crucial moments, luck turned its back on us. We won two domestic titles and made two EuroLeague playoff appearances, bringing the series to Game 5. It can always be better, but we really gave everything we could," the Italian mastermind underlined.

"I want to thank all my players who pushed their limits in difficult moments. I would like to thank Mr. Herbert Hainer for his tireless support, he gave me the confidence to lead the team. I want to thank my partner Marko [Pesic]. Thank you for this sincere relationship. And I want to thank Daniele Baiesi, who has always been by my side. I also hug all my assistants who really gave me the maximum support. It's over, it's been a great ride."

Before the last goodbye, Trinchieri shared one final memorable quote that embodied his essence throughout his time in Munich.

"I'm just mad that the ref gave me a technical in overtime in my last game. It's really unbelievable because I think it was a very unfair move at such a moment. Some referees think they are the police: you park your car two inches above the line, and they give you a ticket. But we're not cars, this isn't about parking, it's about two fighting teams and a great coach on the other side. That's the only thing I regret today. Grazie e arrivederci."

With Trinchieri's departure, Pablo Laso isset to replace himat the Bavarian club.

In his three seasons with Bayern, Trinchieri led the team to two German Cup titles but didn't manage to win a BBL trophy.

With 11 wins and 23 losses, Bayern finished the 2022-23 EuroLeague season in 15th place.

"There are a million reasons for this, but in the end, there is a result that we did not expect," Bayern GM Marko Pesic said. "Today and in Game 2, we saw a team that struggled, but you can't blame the guys. We lacked a certain calm in the decisive phases. Nevertheless, big respect for Ulm.

"Andrea [Trinchieri] gave us his heart. He was always there 100 percent to ensure that we played successfully. But you also have to say that he has had a lot of bad luck with injuries in the last two years. He never had his full roster available. I feel sorry for him. He's a pro who sees basketball as a calling, not a job. I can only say positive things about him."
